Lieutenant: The Lieutenants are the student-leaders that ensure the logistical support, leadership abilities, and veteran know-how to ensure the day-to-day, minute-by-minute, and Legacy-representing running of the FMC. There are several different jobs for Lieutenants:
The Field Lieutenants are the Lieutenants responsible for commanding the FMC proper at awards and retreat, provide cadence when the battery is not present, is present at horn-line music checks, enforces “rehearsal side-line towel” policies, and assists the Field Captains in any duty
necessary for the efficient and productive running of the group. They also perform the duty of ensuring the welfare and well-being of members of the band in any issue before it gets to the attention of the leadership posts above them.
The Section Lieutenants are responsible for the end-product of the instruments in their group (Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion). They coordinate the sectionals with section-leaders to ensure assigned music is being prepared when it is supposed to be prepared, and ensure quality-control across all sections in their insrument group.
Lieutenants answer to Field Captains, Drum Majors, Staff, and the Director of Bands.
