The unique relationship Princess Anne High School has in Virginia Beach — by nature of being the oldest school in the City and with our location right in the heart of Virginia Beach in Pembroke / Virginia Beach Town Center — means that we are often asked to serve as ambassadors of Virginia Beach City Public Schools in the capacity of performing for our Community. Over the years, this has lead to some wonderful opportunities for Civic Engagement:
- Performing for the USS San Jacinto when it returned from war in 2003 (Speed of Sound Big Band)
- Performing for the “Topping” of the Armada Hoffler Building in Virginia Beach Town Center — when the large spire was added to the top of the building (Speed of Sound Big Band)
- Performing for the opening of the Sandler Center (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Performing for the Grand re-opening of the Cavalier Hotel (Roots n’ Fifths Jazz Combo and the Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Performing for the “Norwegian Lady” remembrance ceremony for NATO personnel (PA Brass Quintet)
- Perform at various store openings in the Pembroke / Town Center area (such as the opening of Wal-mart) (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Assist with Hurricane Matthew clean-up in the Windsor Woods Community (PA Bands)
- Organize and collect a community-wide effort of supplies and then transport them in our 2 twenty-five foot trailers down to Havelock, NC for the Havelock Band to distribute for Hurricane Florence relief. Scarlett Morgan, James E. MacRoberts, Jorge Benitez, Lyn Benitez and the Havelock Band Boosters were VITAL to this effort!!! (PA Bands)

- Perform for Friday Night Flights (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- March in the Veterans’ Day Parade (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- March in the Grand Illumination Parade in Norfolk (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Percussion Ensemble, Horn Ensemble, and Roots n’ Fifths perform at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Nursing Home
- Perform a Side-by-Side concert at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church with the Old Dominion University Wind Ensemble (PA Wind Ensemble)
- Organize and perform at the “Battle of the Bands” (more like the “Cooperation of the Bands”), the VBCPS kick-off event for the Pharrell Williams “Something’s in the Water” Festival (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Perform at the Opening of Wegman’s in Town Center (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Perform the National Anthem at Harbor Park for a Tides Game (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Host the Big Spring Jam at Virginia Beach Town Center (PA Bands)
- Drum line performance at Thoroughgood ES SOL kick-off (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Drum line performance for Relay for Life (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Drum line performance for Sentara Hospice Camp Light House (Fabulous Marching Cavaliers)
- Perform at the “VB Remembers” Memorial Event (for the victims of the Virginia Beach Government Complex Building 2 mass shooting), with love for our community and City. There has never been a greater honor for this band program. (PA Wind Ensemble)
- Flute Ensemble performances at Chrysler Museum in Norfolk
- Jazz Combo performances at Chrysler Museum in Norfolk
- Organize a Virginia Beach City High School Bands benefit concert that raised over $5,000 for Peace Winds Japan to be used for the families and victims of the Japanese tsunami off of the coast of Honshu. (PA Bands)
- In 2023 the Fabulous Marching Cavaliers were invited by Pharrell Williams to record for his song “Piece by Piece”, and in 2024 the band was asked to come to New York City to perform live on national broadcast television on NBC’s “TODAY” show and also on the Red Carpet at the Lincoln Center for the “Piece by Piece” LEGO movie premiere.
